Hi Guys, I’m Tristan and this is Sara, we’re from Hello Smiles and today we wanted to have a quick chat about something we all hope we don’t have, bad breath. Bad breath, also known as Halitosis.
Halitosis is caused by volatile sulphur compounds that are produced by bacteria and they can give off that ‘stinky’ smell, but, there are plenty of other causes,
do you know of any? Couple, in the stomach you get gases, a bit of reflux, that can give off some bad odours. Also, the back of the nose, sinusitis that
can also give some. What about.. another few are stone in your tonsils,
which can give off stinky smells or eating too much garlic bread, smoking.
It dehydrates the mouth, starves it of oxygen, that’ll give a really bad odour and some medications that dry out your mouth or diabetes, some medical conditions can give you bad breath. I guess everybody’s fear is do I have bad breath,
how do I know, how can I tell, what is a test we can do at home?
Okay, well it’s really hard to tell on yourself whether you have bad breath so the easiest way is to ask a friend. or a partner to identify it for you. Okay. If you are alone and you want to try and do it you can just lick a little patch of skin, let it dry and then smell it. But, a friend is definitely better. And this test *huff huff* doesn’t work? Not really. It’s very hard to identify bad breath on yourself. So Tristan if I know I have bad breath, I shouldn’t have a mint because a mint is masking the problem, like, not showering and using deodorant instead right? Definitely. How do we fix this problem? Well you want to limit the amount of bacteria in the mouth, so a good professional clean, brushing twice a day and flossing once a day also,
cleaning the tongue, really important, the tongue has a lot of bacteria on it, and then making sure you avoid dehydration, so keep the water levels-up, that keeps the saliva flow rate up. Fabulous. Nice and easy. Nice few tips.
