Diovan HCT, a brand-name form for valsartan
and hydrochlorothiazide, is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure
in adults. It is a single tablet containing 2 medications, valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide.
Valsartan belongs to a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor blockers, which help
blood vessels to relax. Hydrochlorothiazide belongs to a group of drugs called diuretics,
also known as water pills. Hydrochlorothiazide helps the body get rid of excess fluid. This
medication comes in tablet form and is taken once a day, with or without food. Common side
effects of Diovan HCT include dry mouth, thirst, and weakness. Diovan HCT can also cause dizziness
and drowsiness. Do not drive until you know how this medication affects you. This medication
is only to be used if prescribed by your health care provider. For RxWiki, I’m Trey Robinson.
