hi I’m Dr. Sandeep B. Pillai, Surgical Oncologist, KIMS Cancer Center, Trivandrum. Cancer is just like any other disease if
you remember about 20 or 30 years back tuberculosis and leprosy used to be
considered killer diseases even HIV when it was in its full-blown status people
used to consider it as invariable killer but with the advances of medicine we now
know that tuberculosis leprosy and HIV are now treatable and in many cases
curable also. Same is the thing with cancer
it is our ignorance that needs more treatment than cancer itself most of the
cancers when they are detected in the early stage can be easily cured
I told previously about the hidden cancers like the pancreatic or the gall
bladder or the liver cancers well the cure rates are fairly low but barring
few of these exceptions most of the cases like we see carcinoma of the
breast or the colon or the cervix or the thyroid or most of the oral cancers when
they are detected in the early stage they are easily curable. So much to say
about 70 percent of the early stage cancers can be cured with a modern-day
multidisciplinary treatment.
