GASP is made up of 3 designers and 1 shoemaker GASP comes from Gaspar that is the name of my father who taught me the profession and is a source of inspiration for the brand and GASP does not just come from my father’s name it comes from the meaning of that sigh when you are surprised by something Creative Economy presents GASP
FOOTWEAR THAT COUNT STORIES Renan said that his father had a shoe factory in the ’80s … that he had closed… but he still had some shoe shapes there and that he was thinking of working with it again We have a lot of respect for what he taught and for the whole experience that he has.. we still have a lot to learn When we introduce ourselves we say that we are apprentices of the craft of shoemaker I learn a lot because we are out of date the older ones have to teach the younger ones and the older ones have to keep up with the younger ones. This is interesting to develop a good product you as a developer, as a creator, you need to know all the process if you don’t know the manufacturing process then you will not develop a good product that’s why we valorize the artisanal skills Our idea is to get out of that serial product Make a different business… do something with more handicraft than industrialized process. Even there is technology in industry, the footwear can not be done entirely by robots It needs hands – the artisan’s ability That’s why it has so much exploratory work, slaves in the shoe factory… this to supply this absurd demand in the world today that needs to produce, produce, without end, without limits The creative process of GASP is different from what we learn about developing products At the beginning we used to bought materials suddenly we started to get the materials from our friends, some flaps and leftovers and we saw the possibility of making products with that It is different because it starts from the material. Not from paper or from reference. We get this stuff and now… what are we going to do with it? What’s gonna be cool? What are we going to turn this material into? How to be creative with what we have here? So that’s what gives the essence of our products. In addition to using materials that come to us, we recycle the leftovers. We recycle many things… The world is full of resources The tapestries are full of leather scraps, the fabric stores are full of scraps of fabric… people have fabrics at home. The world is full of resources to produce. We do not have to produce new resources. So I always rescue the question of sustainability… that is a tripod of three things that need to be in tune: the economic part, the environment and the social part. You are not sustainable if the three things are not together A company that respects environmental, but it explores its team, it explores the financial resources… it is not being sustainable. GASP is a brand that valorize experiences We live the local commerce we live the artisan production we live the collaborative market and the creative economy. We’re experiencing this The product itself has to pass a story… about who is making it… The question is: Do you know who is making your shoes?
